What We Think Of The Last Of Us Remastered After Playing For 24 Hours

The Last Of Us was a major hit on the PlayStation 3, winning over 200 awards for its innovative gameplay. The story plot was cleverly conveyed via cutting edge technology that pushed the PS3 to its very limits. The Last Of Us was in a way PlayStation 3's last big hoorah! As it gracefully accepted its global round of applause before allowing the PS4 to take center stage. Although some great games have since launched on PlayStation 3 since then proving there is still life in the old dog yet, there aren't a lot of games that have had such overwhelming requests for a remastered port on Sony's PS4.

After all the rumors and officially announcements, we have finally got our hands on The Last Of Us Remastered on PS4 and this is what we think after the first 24 hours of gameplay.

Set in a Post Apocalyptic Universe, The Last Of Us Remastered is the thrilling dramatic story of one man and a little girls struggle for survival in a world infected by hungry flesh eating humans. Naughty Dog takes inspiration from popular end of the world themed series like The Walking Dead to convey this powerful story of Joel a man in search of redemption and Ellie the little girl he's sworn to protect.

Graphically Striking, Subtly Beautiful

The PS3 version of The Last of Us was pretty impressive but after 24 hours playing the Remastered version, we think this was the way Naughty Dog had always wanted this title experienced. The environment was designed to be chaotic and dark with lots of dirt, debris, rustic decay, rotten corpses and wildlife environments. Despite all this doom and gloom, TLOUR on PS4 took all this mayhem and made it beautiful.

Running at 1080p, 60 frames per second the graphics just appeared to pop out of the screen on our Sony HD Bravia. Naughty Dog has made very noticeable changes to lighting and shadows, but what we really appreciated was the more subtle changes to skin, dirt and blood texture, or the way Joel's worn out green/brown khaki shirt now ruffled, pulled and creased in realistic motion as he moved around the map. Its these gorgeous little attention to detail that truly sets The Last Of Us Remastered edition apart from its predecessor.

As far as story is concerned the plot is pretty much the same for those who have already played it, although the gameplay does feel much smoother as you navigate dark hallways sneaking past Clickers and marauders in search of clues and equipments. Ammo is still scarce so preserving those precious bullets and killing foes with spiked 2x4's and shivs is still the way to survive.

Our Thoughts . . .

We pretty much knew what to expect from The last Of Us Remastered on PS4 as far as story was concerned, but what has been a pleasure to experience has been the more subtle visual touches that seems to just breath new life into last years best game of the year winner. If you are yet to play The Last Of Us or wish to revisit this unforgettable dark tale, we recommend the remastered edition on PlayStation 4 is the only way to experience it.
