Bloober Games Creative Director, Peter Bielatowicz tells us what inspired their new Playstation 4 Game Basement Crawl.
Basement Crawl is a maze style action game, with elements of strategy thrown into the mix. According to Peter Bielatowicz – Creative Director and Vice-President, Bloober Games. Basement Crawl was inspired by old classics like Spy vs Spy (I loved that game!) and Bomberman. (Another great classic.)
The main aim of the game, will be to set up traps which will self detonate, or activate when opponents approach or step on it. Basement Crawl will focus on multiplayer, but during single campaign mode, you will have bots available to make up for the characters missing.
Mr Bielatowicz did also mention, that although their game is inspired by the old school retro classics. Gamers need not worry as they are creating a game that is modern, and aligned with the competition. The game will be a 2.5D game featuring dynamic cameras in game modes, mechanics and characters.
Mr Bielatowicz feels that current games tend to be heavily dependant on character development, or luck and randomness. So Bloober Games wanted to build a game that excluded some of the factors like character levelling up. Instead they focused on designing a game that was very skilled-based, which would appeal to the more hardcore gamers out there.
The result of this is to expect more control over the game, as opposed to an auto point and shoot style mechanics. Basement Crawl will have you thinking fast on your feet, and using your quick reflexes to avoid traps. The game will support 4 player and 8 player online play, with 4 available characters to choose from in the beginning. Each of these 4 characters will have their own unique skill sets, balanced carefully against each other.
Here is a look at the first three characters of the game.
Girl with a bear, Crash-test dummy, and Midget Clown.
