August 20th, 2014 By Maya MayfieldFar Cry 4 takes us into two dimensional contrast worlds ranging from the imaginary recollections of the warm Shangri-La to the highest peaking cold mountains of the Himalayan. We recently got a chance to check out both of these locations which make up a few of the environments in the upcoming open-world shoot-em-up.
In Far Cry 4 you will take on the role of Ajay Ghale a local native to Kyrat as he travels back home to spread the ashes of his dead mother. But Ajay is soon consumed by the brutality and bloodshed that has plagued the people and country.
During our demo at Gamescom, we explored one of the many occupied areas clearing the environment of Mins soldiers and commanding general. We are first introduced to the breathtakingly beautiful Himalayan peaks, with its deluge of snow. We could see from the opening intro before we even started playing just how much detail Ubisoft Montreal has gone into making the world of Far Cry 4 look and feel as real as virtually being there yourself.
Far Cry 4 is designed to give players freedom of choice, to approach every situation in a way they want. From full on open warfare to more stealthier methods to achieve your object, the choice is yours to take. What we really liked was the use of manipulating the local wildlife in tactical ways to storm strong holds. Our adventure began with us getting a feel for our environment by sneaking through various constructions, studying enemy movements and marking them using Ajay's camera as we lay hidden behind grass, rocks and shrubs.
Silently snuffing out each enemy soldiers marked on our digital camera felt morbidly satisfying as you hear their stifled yelps of pain as they struggle to free themselves from Ajay's deathly grip. The combat mechanics feels firm and steady, with each punch delivered with weight and purpose, while weapon blasts from a variety of weapons carried its own powerful sound effect and impact.
Next we were introduced to Shangri-La in our second part of the demo, which takes Ajay across a set of tapestries randomly located thoughout Kyrat. These places lead Ajay into past memories of an ancient warrior in Kyrat's past that must cleanse evil from the mythical land of Shangri-La. This section of the demo definitely took on a completely new warmer style to the contrast of the cold Himalayan mountain, with Shangri-La designed with lush colors of red petals that flowed gently through the air, while players are accompanied by a mythical guardian tiger. This tiger automatically tracks enemies, but can also be guided to attack a particular enemy by command.
We can't wait to get our hands on the full copy of Far Cry 4, but from this short demo we are more than certain fans of the previous series will be very satisfied with Ubisoft's latest Far Cry Franchise.
Far Cry 4 will be amiable this November 18th on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.
