CD Projekt's ambitious RPG is described by its developers to be a fantasy world that is "morally indifferent." Yet its hard to describe just how surreal the World of The Witcher 3 really is. From its open credits the landscape grabs and pulls at you, daring you to lose yourself in this old but very beautiful world filled with secrets and danger at every corner. Where the most ruthless of villains will be lamented and heroes will be forged in history.
Players take on the role of the Witcher, better known as the slayer of monsters. You are part of an old lineage of powerful beings, highly trained from birth to search and destroy evil against humanity. Our Hero Geralt of Rivia has been granted with the gift or curse of long life which has led him on a journey through out centuries hunting demons.
At the very beginning of The Witcher 3, we are introduced to Geralt and his old master Vesemir. The two are on horseback searching for Geralt's old flame Yennefer of Vengerberg. This beautiful sorceress had sent a mysterious letter to Geralt and Vesemir. After the initial introduction the world of Wild Hunt quickly opens up to reveal a breathtaking environment filled with rich forestry landscapes and muddy pathways, as you search for clues to Yennefer's cryptic note. Wild hunt is bursting with life as villagers go about their daily chores, children run and play while little animals scurry in the distance as you approach.
The combat system in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is detailed and realistic to the era. As you begin Wild Hunt, Geralt is equipped with a Sword made of steel and silver, best used to destroy monsters and men foolish enough to get in his way. During combat mode Geralt can use both light and heavy attacks to dodge and parry counter attacks. A very well timed parry will give Geralt a slight counter advantage over his enemies. Beyond blades, Geralt also has a great understanding of magic and alchemy both of which can have major affects during battle.
At the start of the game Geralt can only access 5 signs for both defensive and offensive moves. For example Igni blasts a powerful spray of fire before enemies, while Quen forms a protective barrier around Geralt absorbing enemy attacks. Geralt also has access to various bombs and potions which can be used during combat. These can be acquired by either gathering material from the wild forests or buying them from shops in villages.
Overall The Witcher 3 on PlayStation 4 looks phenomenal, each character and environment has been carefully designed with an engaging storyline to keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. May 19th can't come soon enough as we believe CD Projekt's latest RPG will most certainly ignite both new and die hard fans to the series epic finale.
