Killzone: Shadow Fall Q&A: About Creating Echo and Sinclair

Killzone: Shadow Fall Questions & Answers: About Echo and Sinclair

By Maya Mayfield
26th July 2013

Sony made an announcement earlier this month, about the two new characters being featured in the brand new Killzone: Shadow fall game. David Harewood a popular british actor, famous for his role in Homeland will be playing the role of VSA director Sinclair, and Jamie Gray Hyder, from True Blood series, will be Helghast intelligence operative Echo.
Today Playstations Official Blog asks Dan Calvert Assistant Art Director to tell us more about Sinclair and Echo.

Here is a few questions and Answers from that interview.

PSB: Who is Sinclair and Echo? What roles do they play in Killzone 4:Shadow Fall?

Dan Calvert: Sinclair is the head of the Vektan Security Agency – his duty is to make sure the Vektans are looked upon favourably   without further escalating the cold war into an open conflict. Sinclair is a spymaster and a diplomat. He is a shrewd strategist and is Lucas' direct CO and mentor.
Echo is like Lucas, she is a top ranking field operative giving the task to cross the wall. Echo's mission puts her in direct collison with Lucas. She is very dangerous, and an equal opposite reflection  of the main character. (Imagine Star Wars, light and dark force)

PSB: Tell us how these two characters design evolve?

Dan Calvert: For us to get the best performance from our two main leading characters on Killzone: Shadow Fall. We worked on improving how we incorporate the casting lead actors into the creation process.  We did this before we wrote scripts, design and cast characters. The game is very complex so we couldn't always get this done in the most efficient order.
On Killzone Shadow Fall: We made sure to start with a decisive idea of who and what we wanted a character to be and how we wanted that character portrayed. Then we cast someone we believe was best suited for that role.
