The "Design a Legendary" Project was inspired by many passionate conversations, the team at Blizzard had encountered regarding  itemisation. (Especially Legendary Itemisations.)

During the creation of Diablo III,  Blizzard decided instead of telling gamers about item design, they wanted to have it demonstrated to give players a better understanding of the design process.
