April 30, 2014 By Maya Mayfield
PS4's 1.70 system update is available today and there is a ton of new features coming to PlayStation 4, Playstation Vita and the Playstation App. Without further delay lets get right into what's new on PlayStation 4 v.170 update:
The first of the new features coming today is SHAREfactory, sony's new rich feature video editing application. After you have updated your PS4 with the new v.170 update, an icon will appear to download Sony's new SHAREfactory app on your PlayStation 4 system's home screen. Once SHAREfactory has been installed you will now be able to easily edit and customize your gameplay videos with special effects, custom soundtracks with your own original music via USB imports, picture-in-picture capabilities, video commentary and custom icon badges.
Once you have tinkered with your videos and tweaked it to your exact requirements you can then share your masterpiece to social networks like Facebook or export them to an external USB drive. SHAREfactory is jam packed full of awesome new features and accessible tools. Its fairly easy to use with simple drag and drop capability to help you create your perfect gaming video. Take a look at the new SHAREfactory walkthrough video demonstrating some of the new features below.
- A new addition to the PS4 v.170 system update is the automatic pre-download feature. With this new update, you will be able to start downloading a selection of early pre-ordered games from PlayStation's Store. This latest feature will enable you to get games quicker by automatically downloading select pre-order games several days in advance of the official launch date. Once a game is pre-ordered for automatic release, you can sit back and watch the count down timer letting you know exactly when the game is available to play once unlocked from Playstation's network.
- The new update also includes the option to disable HDCP for games. This was one of the most requested features from PlayStations community and will enable you to turn off HDCP for games so you may record longer gameplay sessions directly from your HDMI output for easy export.
- Exporting USB captured gameplay is even easier with the new v.170 update. Simply click on the DUALSHOCK 4 SHARE button to save your gameplay on a USB thumb drive and share your heroic exploits with friends across various social networks, and video platforms.
- Live broadcasters and viewers on Twitch and Ustream will be pleased to know that Sony has also increased the resolution for live broadcasting allowing PS4 games to now be livestreamed and viewed in gorgeous 720HD. The new update also allows you to archive your broadcast on Twitch and Ustream to view at a later date.
- New Sharing options now enable you to control what you SHARE and with whom you SHARE it with.
- You can now change the default gameplay capture time in the SHARE menu under the Video Clip option. Save only the screenshots and video footages you want by selecting Upload Video footage or Upload Screenshots for each recording.
- You can also upload screenshots and video footage while streaming a live gameplay broadcast. Choose which Facebook friends and audience to share your video footage and screenshot gameplay with.
- New DUALSHOCK 4 options now allows you to select the pads light bar level from Bright, Medium or Dim in the settings menu. The Dualshock 4 touchpad has also been updated, enabling you to maneuver the on-screen keyboard with your DUALSHOCK 4 touchpad.
- Finding and making new friends is now easier with the ability locate Friends-ofFriends, view friends of mutual friends on other users profile and accept Friend request directly from the Friends list.
- New Trophies sorting option allows you to now display your Trophies in the order of the most coveted or rarest to achieve via the options menu.
- PlayStation Store payment support now features a new alternative payment method similar to the Playstation 3 starting with Paypal support for PlayStation 4 content bought on the PS Store.
- PlayStation Camera gets more voice command options allowing you to activate applications installed on your PS4 by voice recognition.
- New PlayStation Plus icon for PS Plus member will now have the icon appear right next to your SEN ID on the home screen, login screen and areas across PlayStation 4's smooth user interface.
- Another update we are very excited about on the new PS4 v.170 system update is the new Music Unlimited SHARE option we wrote about just a few days ago. With Music Unlimited subscription, you will be able to share your favorite tunes with your buddies by hitting the SHARE button on your DUALSHOCK 4 controller for a rocking good time.
On top of all this new massive updates, Sony have also been tweaking the PlayStation Vita with new updates to integrate seamless with the PS4.
PlayStation Vita v.3.15 update will now allow you to link your PS4 and PS Vita together much more easier than before. It will automatically allow Device Registration, so both devices can automatically detect each other and pair up when online and being operated by the same user signed into both devices. This feature makes it quicker to access Remote Play or use the PS Vita as a second screen controller.
We can't wait to test out the new SHAREfactory features and share our favorite music with the new Music unlimited app. Let us know what you think of the new v.170 updates and if there is anything else you were hoping would be included in this new update. All feedback and suggestions will be forward to Sony HQ, ensuring we are all working together to make PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation's platform the best place to play.
