Top 5 PS2 Games We want To Play On PlayStation 4 Remastered In HD
July 17th, 2014 By Mont BrownThere was a time when the PlayStation 2 was the most coveted system on the planet.
With such a fantastic collection of classic titles, some of which was voted the best graphics of its time, we decided with a little help from PlayStation's Community to compile a list of some of the classic PS2 games we would like to see remastered on the PS4.
1) Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Inspired by the exploration based mechanics of the Tomb Raider franchise, Ubisoft Montreal's Prince Of Persia: The Sands of Time took the platforming puzzle genre by storm, combining both engaging storytelling and imaginative environment development to a whole new level.
Prince Of Persia: The Sand of Time was an incredibly sharp, intricate title with highly responsive controls that had gamers using their environments to great effect, like running of walls. Even if you found yourself stumped on a difficult puzzle. You could always rewind back twenty seconds to give it another go. This interesting mix of time focused gameplay, kept gamers hooked for hours, hoping to clear one more level.
The entire Sands of Time trilogy was beautifully tragic, violent and heart-aching as players immersed themselves within Prince's journey across time. Rumor has it that a new Prince Of Persia is on its way to PS4, but in our opinion, nothing will ever be quite as good as the Sands of time.
2) Okami
Despite peoples opinion of The Legend Of Zelda being one of the best adventure series out there, only a few developers have tried to imitate its success with much luck, except for the enchanting Okami.
Set in feudal Japan this beautiful cel-shaded art design game tells the tale of wolf god Amaterasu making his way to Earth to save it from the rebirth of the evil ancient gods. This Zelda-inspired game adds a twist to the classic game by infusing a woodblock artistic style into Okami's gameplay. When the action is paused gamers could draw on the screen using Amaterasu's special skills. Okami is still to this very day a hit in our opinion and it would be incredible to see it making a next-generation debut on the PlayStation 4 in the not too distant future.
3) The Warriors
When Rockstar revealed it was releasing The Warriors to consoles, the news was received with slight apprehension from fans of the classic hit movie. Recreating the unique artistic style and blood curdling violence of The Warriors movie was no easy task, but luckily RockStar was up to the challenge making full use of their now very popular stylized creation for chaos.
What we particularly liked about this recreation of The Warriors was the level of detail Rockstar Toronto put into replicating the movie's dark cult classic tones. From the costumes, to voice acting, cutscenes to soundtrack, all combined with a ton of criminal activities, truly made gamers feel like part of the head busting Warrior crew.
4) Indigo Prophecy (Fahrenheit)
Well before Quantic Dream received global success for its release of Heavy Rain, the development studio worked on a classic title known as Indigo Prophecy. Players take on the leading roles of several characters in this paranormal mind trip thriller that takes you through several quick time events, where you must make meaningful choices, while keeping a watchful eye on your characters mental state or suffer the consequences.
The ability to play as different characters unlocking their individual endings definitely made Indigo Prophecy one of the most repayable titles on PS2. The concept behind Indigo Prophecy (aka Fahrenheit) may not have been original but it was engaging, focusing towards a more mature audience on Sony's PlayStation 2.
5) The Mark of Kri
Before Kratos the God Of War, there was Rau Utu PlayStation 2's champion warrior, though his reign was brief, Rau Utu was one of Sony San Diego's rising superstars. Making his world debut in 2002's The Mark of Kri, Players were introduced to an action powerhouse adventure, mixed with some Polynesian roots. The Mark of Kri was by far at the time one of the best looking games on the PS2, combining both polynesian fighting combat mechanics with stealth gameplay.
