Ken Kutaragi To Be Honored At 14th Annual GDC Awards
January 28th, 2014, By Maya MayfieldKen Kutaragi former CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, aka Father of the Playstation is to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at this years Game Developers Choice Awards for his contribution to the world of gaming. The event which is taking place 19th of March, 6:30pm at the Moscone Convention Center in San Fransisco will be live streamed and open to all Game Developer Choice pass-holders and members.
PS4 lead architecture Mark Cerny, creator of Knack will be honoring Ken Kutaragi with his award, bringing two of the most greatest minds in Playstation on stage. Ken Kutaragi's first contribution to the gaming industry began when he created the SPC700, the sound chip inside Nintendo's Super NES system. The SPC700 was a huge success, inspiring Ken Kuaragi to take on his biggest and most ambitious project to create the first ever gaming console for Sony, which was then released in 1994 under the name of Playstation, or aka the PS1
As Playstation's lead engineer, Ken Kutaragi helped transform the gaming industry. With a solid hardware, and a variety of awesome games, Playstation went on to be the first video game console to sell over 100 million units, with its PS2 successor selling a whopping 135 million units after that.
