Ubisoft has revealed why the newest Assassin's Creed Unity  will not be featuring competitive multiplayer mode, like previous titles in the series.

Beginning with Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, there have been 4 consecutive Assassin's Creed games all featuring a range of competitive multiplayer modes. But this year, Ubisoft decided to focus their efforts and resources on developing the co-operation mode in Assassin's Creed Unity instead of building any type of competitive modes.

Ubisoft explains as its ambitions for co-op gameplay grew, so did their focus towards that instead of attempting to create traditional Assassin's Creed multiplayer modes like before. "We created core mechanical structures that focused on a co-operation style of gameplay instead of confrontation," said Unity's lead and level designer Bruno St-Andre. "We spent a lot of time redefining the battle sequences so that multiple gamers can actually engage in them and have a much better tactical strategy against the AI, which reacts very differently each time. The same thing goes for navigation and stealth. All of our joint efforts and decisions were based on this topic. We really wanted this to be the main focus so we concentrated on that."

Bruno also mentioned that co-op in Assassin's Creed has actually been in existence for all the years the series has existed and since Ubisoft finally made the decision to finally make co-op mode this year, it wants to devote the majority of their effort towards an incredible user co-op experience for both fans and new comers to the Assassin's Creed series.

We enjoyed our demo run-through of Unity at this years E3 2014. Assassin's Creed Unity will be available on October 28th, 2014 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. You can also grab an early copy by pre-ordering it today.
