Ubisoft has finally broken their silence regarding Rainbow 6: Patriots. In an interview with IGN, Laurent Detoc Ubisoft's North American President explained why they pulled the plug on Rainbow 6: Patriots back in 2011.

“We had a strong core team. They had a great vision. They got started, and unfortunately the game just wasn’t working. So they started all over again.” Said Laurent Detoc. “We have a big editorial group of influential people at Ubisoft. If the game we are working on is not good enough, they say it is not good enough. Most times the team working on the project will agree, but sometimes they want to continue going towards that direction, regardless of the general consensus of the entire group."

“We had to remake Rainbow 6: Patriots,” Laurent continued, “and the team working on the project will have the benefit of releasing it on the new next-gen consoles, if and when it comes out. This is just one of those example where you try and if it doesn't workout, you try again. If the game doesn't work we are not going to bring it to you."

Laurent Dettoc also cleared up speculations of a name change for the new Rainbow 6: Patriots saying. “Could it become a shooter with another name when the project is complete, because the team decides they want to focus on a counter terrorism plot? Let's say they want to set the theme in a mercenary setting? That is also very possible," he said.

We know since Rainbow 6: Patriots is definitely coming to next-gen consoles, the question we would like to know is when. Since Laurent Detoc did mention the words, "If and when it comes out." We won't hold our breath to hear more on this until maybe mid to late 2014.

Do you think we could see Rainbow 6: Patriots in 2014?
