Getting our Hands on: Battlefield 4 on Playstation 4
By Maya MayfieldAug 22nd 2013
DICE's brand new upcoming game Battlefield 4 has caught the attention of military action shooters the world over. The game promises a massive 64-multiplayer warzone universe running at a glitch free 60 frames per second on the PS4. At Gamescom we got a taste along with a handful of others on how the game will operate on the Playstation 4, and we are definitely giving DICE two thumbs up for their efforts on this one.
The game felt smooth, and glitch free, running at a consistent 60 frames per second. We were able to see a huge contrast from the new PS4 version of Battlefield 4 to the previous Battlefield 3 on the PS3.
The fast frame-rate will mean that players will be able to control the game much better, and improve their reaction times when being flanked by enemies in various locations. We were quickly able to land some precise headshots while in sniper mode, before changing aiming modes to take out some enemies fast approaching. The games movements also feels much more responsive in Battlefield 4 as you make your way around the terrain taking cover fire.
Firing your weapons on the newly designed DualShock 4 controller in Battlefield 4 is fast and responsive to the touch. The brand new reworked R2 and L2 triggers react instantly to your input. Although the version we played on the PS4 is still in pre-release mode, it did give us a massive indication of what to expect once Battlefield 4 is officially released on the PS4 coming this 15th of november in North America and 29th of November in Europe.
For now we can tell you that the game is visually stunning, from the smokes of flames across the war torn environments to the dust of sands blowing across the screen. We even had to squint our eyes once, as we caught a glimpse of the Sun peaking across one of the dilapidated buildings in the horizon. The games audio will bring fresh realism to your missions, pulling you right into the heart of the battle, as bullets fly past your ear, and rockets come crashing down with a thunderous Boom!
DICE the games developers have confirmed that the Playstation 4 version of BF4 will be supporting a full 64 gamers per match via the Playstation network, with an additional two slots, held in reserve for Commander Players.
This now means that Battlefield 4 on the PS4 will be running in full game mode along with the high end PC version. The games multiplayer battles will be large, ranging between, sea, land and air battles. Gamers will have the option of going into battle as infantry units, or in tanks, aircrafts and APC amphibious motor vehicles. DICE has spoken a lot on the Amphibious combat system being a huge highlight in Battlefield 4, since it was hardly used in previous BF series.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our hands-on with Battlefield 4. The world around us felt much more interactive than previous versions in the past. We were able to do things with the environment that we couldn't do before, like open and close doors, to avoid enemy detection, set traps, and even lock enemies away, giving us a chance to quickly escape.
The new environment destruction feature, "Levelution" made the game more realistic as you eventually break down strong lines of defence with C4 charges, rockets and grenade launchers in the battle zone.
In Battlefield 4, you now have a commander mode which allows you to support your squadrons by issuing squad orders, ordering mission supply drops, and counteracting your enemies with UAV deployments and EMP blasts. You can do all this without physically being in the battle yourself.
DICE has said that the final version of Battlefield 4 will enable gamers to take on the Commander roles from the comfort of your tablet applications.
We can't wait for the finished version of Battlefield 4 and we will continue to keep you up to date on all the latest news about this awesome new game coming to the PS4.
