Crytek President Comments On Playstation 4′s GPU Compute
By Maya Mayfield26th October 2013
Sony have been placing a lot of focus on the Playstation 4's GPU compute ability of late, but the question a lot of people want to know is will multi platform games be able to take advantage of this extra GPU on the PS4.
Cevat Yerli, Founder, CEO and President of Crytek, was asked to give his opinion on PS4's GPU Compute capabilities and this was his response.
"The PS4's CPU capacity is better than PS3's but not by a huge gap. The Playstation 4's GPU on the other hand has seen huge improvements."
If the work process suited a project, then moving to the GPU can be an incredible performance win, but this is taking away performance from traditional graphics pipeline, so there's a limit to what can be moved to the GPU.
As for the general question on multi-platform. Supporting GPU compute isn’t that much difficult than supporting multi-platform rendering, so it is certainly something we’ll be using a lot more on all platforms."
