What To Expect From Next-Gen Lara Croft: Dev Diary
January 21st, 2014, By Maya MayfieldScot Amos Executive producer on Tomb Raiders definitive edition has just shared some details on what gamers can expect from the next-gen Lara Croft. The video demonstrates an array of visual improvements made to our action heroine. Scot highlights the way in which Crystal Dynamics, working alongside Nixxes (PS4 Version) and United Front Games (Xbox One Version) combined forces to redesign Lara Croft for the next generation systems. Taking full advantage of the new horsepower, the studio added high resolution textures, reworking the head models topology to include more detail than ever before. The team also brought in AMD's TressFX hair simulation technology from the windows version of Tomb Raider last year.
The game also sees enhance visuals on the blood water and mud effects against Lara's skin adding a far more realistic look to the characters appearance via sub-surface scattering which allows light to go below the skin texture and diffuse more realistically.
Beyond Lara, players can expect to see a much more realistic appearance to the environment and items being carried by Croft. Objects such as weapons, climbing axe and the radio look more fluid, flowing with the movements of her body as expected thanks to a brand new physics simulation designed just for those times.
Tomb Raider Definitive Edition will be available on PS4 and Xbox One from January 28th and is available to pre-order now from the link below.
