March 20th, 2014, by Dean HowardSnake manœuvres across rocks and dirt making sure he isn't spotted. Crawling slowly in the thickness of night, his suit is drenched from the pouring rain. A master in the art of stealth and espionage, snake blends perfectly into the darkness, hidden from the night guards on patrol and passing vehicles.
As the camera zoom towards his face, we see a man whose years of military training and experience is expressed with every wrinkle, battle scars and troubled past. But for Snake this just another mission for the legendary hero as he makes his world debut in Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes for PS3 and PS4.
This new game follows on from the events that took place Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. In Ground Zeroes we learn that Big Boss has infiltrated a military compound in Cuba, his mission is to extract two high-value targets before they’re tortured and executed. Ground Zeroes creates the foundation to which Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will carry on. This prologue could be considered an early teaser before the main MGS5 game is released early 2015.
Ground Zeroes takes on a new sense of realism, with extensive details to character development, animation and environment. Kojima productions has taken special attention on the new control system, enabling players to navigate using various movement options like walking, running, diving, rolling and of course fighting in smooth succession. Like previous classic Metal Gear solid games, most of the excitement comes from figuring out the best ways to dispatch of an enemy without raising attention to your position. Snake has several weapons to dispatch of foes using lethal and non lethal force. From a tranquilizer pistol, to shotguns and riffles.
Fans of Metal Gear will really enjoy this prologue packed full of details they will be familiar with like, engrossing radio chatter and a story plot full of intrigue and mystery. Although Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is but a taste of what is to come on Phantom Pain, we think it provides a detailed insight if rather short to what's to come from Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain.
