Earlier this month NeatherRealm Studios announced the exciting new Mortal Kombat X is coming to PS4, a follow up title to the critically acclaimed 2011 Mortal Kombat 9. During E3 2014, we had a chance to get our hands on the latest beat-em up and learned a few of the most important elements of the insanely fun, but incredibly brutal brawler.

1. There are brand new characters to play with and fight

NetherRealm Studios showcased 4 new characters that will be included to the already expansive line up of super fighters both old and new, with loads more to be revealed in the months ahead.

Kotal Kahn – a descendent of Shao Kahn, has the power to summon totems that increases his strength during battle and has a devastating killer finishing move that involves grabbing the heart right out of the chest of his opponents body.

Ferra and Torr – 2 for the price of 1. Feral-looking Ferra rides on the back of Torr. Whilst these two duo's are slightly slower than some other characters, they make up for this disadvantage by their raw unreserved power. Torr can fling Ferra at fighters like a projectile attack from a distance.

2. You will need to make the most of your environment

There are a bunch of items gamers can use to their advantage  littered around every single level - from grabbing dead washed up corpse out of the sea to throw at enemies to leaping of walls to gain a slight height advantage over opponents.

3. Switching up your fighting style is key to victory

Every Mortal Kombat character has 3 fighting style variations to select from that can drastically change the way that fighter plays. Among the examples demonstrated at E3 2014 were Inferno Scorpion who could summon demons to help him during battle, while Pain and Gain, a variation for Ferra and Torr, showcasing  Ferra from the sidelines whilst Torr begins the match by stabbing himself to dramatically increasing the damage he can dish out on his opponents.

4. The future is now, seize the moment
