LittleBigPlanet 3’s Brand New Characters Revealed In Closer Detail

A Closer Look at LittleBigPlanet 3’s  Swoop, Oddsock and Toggle

One of the biggest surprising announcements of E3 week was the revelation of LittleBigPlanet 3 live on the PlayStation stage at the media briefing room. For those who are unaware Sackboy is making a comeback, this time on PlayStation 4 in November. In addition to his return, Sackboy has a ton of new major updates, including new moves, new creation mode and three awesome new playable friends in the form of: Swoop, Oddsock and Toggle.

"We have spent a very long time working on the characters,” explains XDev’s Pete Smith backstage at the event in LA. “Not just making sure that these 3 new character appear distinctive but that they each  also offer unique gameplay. That, for me, is the biggest thing. We want new and old players to the LBP series to go ‘Wow, they really changed up the game, and I can create brand new experiences with them’.

“We were also very keen to make sure that these characters were very iconic from a silhouette point of view, so that when you look at them together you can instantly identify them and tell them apart. Yet we still also wanted them to feel like they were part of the Sackboy family, rather than just watered down versions of the same character.”

Ater getting a taste of the enjoyable demo's on display at E3 2014, we can most certainly confirm that these 3 new character does add a zip of new life, with a burst of fresh energy to what we already think is a fantastic series. These new characters open up a new dimension of possibilities to where LittleBigPlanets future series could be heading, both for the community and the developers.

Finally Pete also explains that during the early stages of LittleBigPlanet 3's development, the team did have a ton of ideas, like one character they designed called Sackworm, but most of these didn't make it past the cutting room floor, due to not being good enough to be game changers.
“They all began as silhouettes," explains Pete.  "They needed to be game changers, they needed to feel like they were part of the LittleBigPlanet world, they need to be fully customisable,  and they needed to have loads of personality. I think the final 3 characters chosen have really struck that perfect balance.”
