Activision Adds Sledgehammer Games To Call Of Duty Development Studio
February 7th, 2014, by Maya MayfieldSledgehammer Games will now join two other studios already working on the Call of Duty franchises with each studio working on a different game every 3 years. Eric Hirshberg CEO and President of Activision made the announcement yesterday during the companies earnings call, revealing Sledgehammer Games will now be working on Call of Duty's yet to be announced 2014 game.
Infinity Ward and Treyarch were the two main studios developing the Call of Duty series with each studio bringing a new title every year. With Sledgehammer Games now apart of the studio, Eric Hirshberg said players will see an increased level of quality to the franchise, stating this was the fundamental reason for the change. This third studio will now give each developing team time to polish their games, making sure the fans get the best possible experience in the COD universe each and every year.
We think this is a very smart move by Activision, considering the recent Battlefield 4 fiasco of rushing their un-prepared game to market. This 3 year cycle will undoubtedly give each studio time to produce the type of quality, players should come to expect especially when they are being asked to pay up to $59.99 for Triple A games.
