Sony has announced the upcoming 1.75 update will feature the long overdue Blu-Ray 3D Support for the PlayStation 4. The news was announced earlier today by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, a few days after Microsoft had revealed the Xbox One will be getting Blu-ray 3D support soon.

Just an hour ago Sony has done one better revealing on twitter that the update will be out next week, which makes us wonder if this sudden announcement is coincidental or a strategic move by Sony to stay one up on Microsoft's Xbox One.

If this is the case, it would be a very smart decision as this update will no doubt drive more PS3 owners on the fence to make the leap unto PlayStation 4. The only issue however is will this Blu-ray 3D support be ready by next week? Sony are yet to reveal an exact date or what other Theatre related features like Bluetooth support, MP3 Playback or DLNA Support will be out with the update so it does leave us wandering exactly what will be coming.

Do you think Sony planned to announce the 3D Blu-ray feature now or did Microsoft force their hand?
