Are Developers Only Going To Keep Announcing Old Remastered Games?
August 5th, 2014 By Dean HowardAs Capcom joins the number of developers releasing remastered versions of their old games with their recent announcement of Resident Evil Remastered coming out next year, we wonder if this is a taste of things to come for the future of next generation gaming?
We all love a good remake here and there, but are we destined to re-expereince every old title on what should be consoles of the Future? Is it a lack of innovation, ideas or just plain laziness why developers choose to port games from way back when, or is it a genuine demand from fans? If the latter is the case then how much more enhancements to the same old port do we really need or want in order to add true genuine value to our gaming experience?
I guess when you really think about it, Hollywood does the same thing with movies, but at least with a film reboot like Batman, you can look forward to seeing a new lead Actor/Actress playing our favorite heroes although we've seen and heard the story a thousand times before. Should we not demand something similar of video games too?
Maybe these remasters are not meant for fans, but for a younger generation yet to experience the thrill and excitement of titles from way back when, but if that is the case should younger gamers expect to see a remastered edition of the original Assassin's Creed in about 10 years time?
How un-inspiringly un-innovative that would be. I for one would love to see new titles from new developers pushing through the industries ranks, creating a new buzz and exciting topics of discussion on its cutting edge style of play and originality. Thats why the entire team here at PS4.sx strongly support indie development. New developers bring fresh new ideas, they may not have the unlimited budget, but with our support could eventually release the type of games we have all been craving, worthy of next generation status, not just in visuals but originality as well.
That's why we are looking forward to playing games like No man's Sky, The Witness, Everybody's gone to the rapture, Velocity 2X and more like these. They may not be the big head turners, but at least they are not remastered versions of the same old, same old.
