Greatness Awaits Those Who Share Play
August 19th, 2014 By Maya MayfieldPlayStation's community members should really start getting very excited about the upcoming 2.0 firmware for PlayStation 4 as it features something so special, we believe it will change the way we play games forever. In the midst of all the incredible updates revealed from last week's Gamescom 2014 event, there was one piece of information so mind-blowingly awesome it made everything else appear mundane.
Share Play
Share Play is a feature that will let you play your friends games over PlayStation's Network via the internet regardless of not having the game! All you need to do is register for a free PSN account to be eligible and thats it! The Share Play feature uses a single game copy of any PlayStation 4 title, operating locally on one console.
While playing, gamers then have the option of sending invites out to friends to join their game by streaming it unto their PS4 system.
For example if you are playing The Order 1886, The Division, or even Driveclub and your buddies don't have those games, they can still join your mission. Unlike Ustream or Twitch, players can not only watch but participate and even take over your controls in case you need a helping hand during more challenging stages.
Our Thoughts . . .
Andrew House's announcement of PS4'S Share Play at PlayStationGC will most definitely change the way games are played and experienced in future, but even with this fantastic news, Sony will be limiting Share Play's social interactive sessions to an hour each time to avoid user abuse. The idea is actually ingenious when you think about it as it will not only allow friends to experience the types of games people in their social networks are playing but, also sample a taste of the game for themselves, before investing. This will no doubt boost more game sales as players hopefully get addicted to titles they would never have consider buying or playing before. We expect the 2.0 firmware to launch in the fall so stay tuned for more information on what else to expect from this software very soon.
