The Inspiration Behind The Alien in Isolation
October 7, 2014 By Maya MayfieldAlien Isolation the brand new adventure from Creative Assembly was created to encapsulate the look and feel of the 1979 original sci-fi classic. In celebration of todays release, Simon Ridge chief animator on Alien Isolation spoke with PlayStation on how he brought the character to life.
Using a wealth of influences, information and references courtesy of 20th century Fox, Simon said he was able to get great ideas when creating the alien's mentality and the environment it inhabits.
Tobias Kleanthous, lead programer of animation was responsible for developing the technology behind the games animation and the Alien's AI.
In an attempt to create an Alien that feels genuinely menacing it was crucial for the entire team to build a creature that was both impressively huge and lightning quick.
Working on the AI mechanics, Tobias said the Alien was designed to be as randomly unscripted in its movements, creating a creepy, unnerving experience for players.
Alien: Isolation is available today on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, let us know what you think of the game in the comments below.
